The Site Controller will manage all financial aspects of Kinross’ operations in the Khabarovsk region in accordance with the existing Company guidelines. This role will oversee and provide leadership to a team in an area / discipline of finance, ensuring appropriate financial reporting and management, as well as governance and compliance. The Site Controller will be responsible of providing financial analysis and support to regional finance senior management team(s) in support of business strategies, initiatives and business planning.
The scope may include financial reporting and analysis, accounting, compliance, treasury, risk, internal audit, tax and information technology.
Essential Functions
Execute operational strategies for the site controller function
- Lead the execution of strategies in the administrative functions to enhance current practices and performance
- Ensure team members are fulfilling the objectives and goals of their positions while providing support, assistance, encouragement and constructive feedback as necessary.
- In conjunction with finance department, formulates the annual operating and capital budgets for the administrative functions, consistent with Company established financial guidelines and business planning process.
- Maintain control over the site information technology system and ensures its integrity.
- Oversee the short- and long-term cost forecasts and operating plans, provide departmental financial updates, and make financial recommendations.
- Actively participates as a member of the senior management team of the mine in establishing and managing general operating parameters.
- Prepare monthly operation financial and cost reports (in collaboration with regional office & other site personnel).
- Control and maintain capital asset and depreciation sub ledger for Company assets
- Assure protection for the assets of the business through internal control, internal audit, and ensure proper insurance coverage.
- Review and validate in collaboration with cross-functional teams all input reports and production data that are used in the financial reporting process.
Develop and implement business practices and policies within the administrative and finance functions that align with the organization’s overall strategy
- Contribute to the development and implement processes, policies, systems, and practices related to financial reporting and internal controls that maximize operational efficiencies and competitive advantage.
- Act as a change agent and project sponsor for key initiatives; promote organizational values, set the cultural tone, and prioritizes business goals.
- Collaborate with senior management in identifying and analyze business requirements and the team’s implication.
- Monitor and report on targets’ achievement; revise strategies as needed.
Lead and manage a team responsible for executing the administrative functions strategy
- Identify strategies, set key performance objectives and mentor the direct reports; work to overcome challenges and barriers to minimize risks.
- Set performance targets and measures, monitors, and manages the overall performance of the functions and direct reports.
- Build the capabilities of the administrative teams to enhance the administrative function’s ability to achieve the financial and operating strategy; hires appropriately, leverages the talents of the function, and takes corrective action where necessary.
- Assign tasks to less experienced employees with proper oversight, where required, and provide mentorship and guidance on complex or sensitive issues. Ensure there is a comprehensive and effective succession management strategy in place for the function; identify succession role requirements and high potential talent, and actively develop key talent.
- Actively seek mentorship and learning to improve product or technical knowledge and skill set.
Required Qualification:
Education
- Degree from accredited university in Accounting or equivalent experience with increasing levels of responsibility
- Additional specialized education of up to 4 years including master’s level degree or equivalent
- Current accounting designation (e.g. CA, CPA or CMA) required or MBA degree
Experience
- 8-10 years of related work experience
- Experience leading professionals
- Experience in developing a strategic plan that positioned the business for growth
- Previous experience in the mining industry in development stage projects is preferred (EPCM set up)
- Previous experience in project management will be a plus
- Experience Proficiency with budgeting and forecasting, materials management, warehousing, and procurement
- Guided by policies, resource requirements, budgets and the business plan
- Exposure to on-site computer software would be an asset (JD Edwards in particular)
- Expertise in Microsoft Office applications
- Fluent in English & Russian
